Inasmuch as the Yad Aharon & Michael Food Fund focuses primarily on the needs of our own Jewish
community, we are not oblivious to the dire circumstances
of the countless number of desperate South Africans whose
day-to-day survival is a relentless struggle.
Our “Outreach Programs”, therefore, are not only an
opportunity to network with other charity organisations who
share our mission of alleviating poverty in our midst, but they
also enable us to, in turn, fulfil the mitzvah of Chesed by
touching the lives of those whose predicament seems infinitely
more desperate than our own.
And their gratitude is limitless…..
The initiator of this project aimed at bringing a ray of hope to
these desperate folk is Alice Friedman, a keen humanitarian
and the Managing Director of the Yad Aharon & Michael
Tzedokah Food Fund.
Regardless of who it is we try to help, our
mission remains steadfast: to meaningfully contribute towards
easing the burden of the escalating numbers of people in need.
The similarity between our and Operation Hunger’s Mission
Statement is quite startling: “To create partnerships between
vulnerable households and caring people to combat poverty
and malnutrition which, when suffered by children, undermines
the nation’s health, education and economic potential.
As
such, Operation Hunger concentrates its efforts in marginalised
communities serving “the poorest of the poor”. By engaging
with communities, organisations and authorities in partnership
ventures and projects,
Operation Hunger aims to combat such
debilitating circumstances.
The same can be said of our latest “Outreach” partner, “Operation Upliftment for the Homeless and Unemployed”. Established in 1989, its vision is to make communities self-sufficient through economic emancipation and skills development.
“Even a single act of charity makes a difference to the lives of disadvantaged people and, the common denominator between your organisation and ours, is our dedication in our mission to enhance the quality and content of people’s lives, thereby enabling to find a sense of dignity in our society”. |
