Rosh Hashana 2023 – Letter from the CEO

Aug 7, 2023

Dear Valued Donor, BS”D

During this season of reflection and renewal, I am reaching out to you with a heartfelt appeal.

This year Yad Aharon & Michael’s Yom Tov campaign is called Project Wake-Up Call, inspired by the poignant sound of the Shofar that resonates throughout this auspicious time. Maimonides teaches that the sound of the Shofar moves us to return to Hashem. It is like a voice calling: “Wake up, you sleepers, and return to your real purpose, the purpose why you are here in the world.” Teshuva. Tefilla. TZEDAKAH.

Of all the doing mitzvahs our sages praise and place on a pedestal above and beyond any other mitzvah is Tzedakah. We are told that the merit of the mitzvah of Tzedakah in weight is equal to ALL the other mitzvahs combined.

As we come together to celebrate Rosh Hashanah, let us heed this wake-up call and remember those who rely on us for their most basic needs. Yad Aharon & Michael is a beacon of hope for individuals and families facing food insecurity in our community. It is a stark reality that with our current economic climate we are seeing huge growth in those reliant on us for the very basic provision of food. The cost of living continues to rise, and numerous families struggle to make ends meet. Parents are faced with unbearable choices between paying bills, providing for their children, and putting food on the table. This is where we step in, offering a lifeline to those who need it most.

Rosh Hashanah, a time of new beginnings, reminds us of the deep significance of tzedakah. Giving charity during this season is a tradition that dates back centuries, symbolizing our commitment to improving the lives of others. Your support at this crucial time – not only meets the immediate needs of families – but also empowers them with a renewed sense of dignity and hope. Together, we can make a difference for our community by not only providing sustenance but also nourishing the spirit of hope and compassion within our blessed community.

With your generous contribution to our vital Food Fund and Project Wake- Up Call campaign, we will ensure that every family in need has a dignified and plentiful Chag. Together, let us answer the call of the Shofar by awakening hearts and changing lives. Every act of kindness counts and strengthens the bonds that hold our community together.

Wishing you and your family a Ketivah v’chatima tovah. May this new year be filled with brocha in abundance and may your generosity be rewarded.
